About Fred
7-year-old Fred has been looking for his special human forever friends for awhile now. In fact, he’s been waiting for his perfect people for so long that he has some important updates to share.
Fred – this most handsome of boys – has adjusted to “pet life” very well. He adores being around people and loves to rest his head on your lap for a pat or ear rub. He does the cutest little hops if he is excited and likes to toss his head like a horse when running at his humans to say hello.
Fred would like to know “who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?” (no-one who knows Fred, that’s for sure!). This clever boy is building up his repertoire of cues and knows ‘touch’, ‘this way’, ‘wait’, ‘let’s go’, ‘on your bed’, ‘down’ and – the most important one – ‘where’s bunny’ (to find his squeaky toys). He’s also been practising ‘leave it’ and his recall skills. His foster carers are super proud! Fred would like his new humans to know that his favourite treats are essential to his learning process: lots of brain power in chicken nuggets, peanut butter, cheese, and bananas!
Like all greyhounds, Fred has some special quirks and he relies on his cute face to get away with his many thievery attempts. Fred likes to collect (and occasionally chew) many human items including shoes, pencils, and glasses. With management (keeping things out of reach) and training (‘trade up’ for a treat) Fred is learning which ‘toys’ are his and which are for humans only.
Previously, Fred was a nervous boy in the big, wide world and had significant trouble freezing on walks. We are so happy to report that Fred is now super confident in familiar areas and loves his afternoon walks and early morning trips to the beach. He’s even been to Bunnings, and accompanied his humans to brekky and dinner where he’ll happily munch some treats and watch the world go by.
Fred is not small-dog friendly and can be reactive to other dogs on walks, especially if they are running or barking. His foster carers have put lots of time and effort into helping Fred feel more comfortable and calm around other dogs. Fred is responding really well to training and management and his new home will be willing to continue this, with the support of Amazing Greys. We feel Fred could happily live with another medium to large dog, but sorry no small dogs or other small pets.
Previously, Fred struggled to spend any time home alone but although he still prefers to have his humans around, this brave boy can now be left alone for a few hours. Fred’s new home will have time to slowly build up time spent home alone and he would suit people who WFH or would not leave him alone for FT working hours.
Fred is excited and friendly with new people but doesn’t always know his size, although he is getting better at polite greetings. Fred could suit a family with children as long as an adult can supervise and make sure everyone is happy and safe. He did spend some time in foster care with children under 10yrs old and was well behaved around them. Fred can be a bit overwhelmed by lots of noise, so this would need to be considered with a home with young children.
If you think you can offer Fred the home a beautiful boy like him deserves, please contact us at adopt@amazinggreys.com.au for an application form.
