About Jasper Nightingale
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/about-vicdrg/adoption-and-foster-application-forms.html/
Jasper has found a new lease on life in the last months living happily as an only dog and commencing a pain management regime for his sore knees and hips (not requiring surgery).
He does require time to build up trust, as his past history suggests it hasn’t always been easy living.
Once you gain his trust he is a very well-mannered little dog. He will approach you for cuddles, gentle pats and massages.
He will come when called and he knows to sit to have his harness /coat fitted for his walks. He has always been a little sensitive when handled around his head, but will improve as he trusts you.
House trained and happy to be home alone for some hours so long as he is not confined, Jasper will use the doggy door. He has an independent streak choosing to sleep alone in his favourite chair overnight however always wakes his foster carer every morning with a smile.
Jasper was an outside dog for most of his previous life and consequently he is very scared of weather events including thunder, lighting and high winds. Recently we found that an Adaptil collar was extremely effective for him and he calmed remarkably once the collar was fitted.
On walks Jasper will bark at other dogs as they approach/across the street but we have discovered this is with excitement and he just wants to say hello. He is happy to stand calmly in the company of the other dog and has also been in the company of dogs at the vet and groomers with no issues.
Whilst previously he was snippy if picked up or scared, give him time and let him gain trust and confidence and you will see what a lovely, friendly loving little dog he is. He will spend time in a doggy bed next to you but he is generally not clingy. He loves meeting new people both on his daily walks and at home. He travels well in the car once he settles, including long drives.
He is well behaved at the groomers and the vets and he is muzzle trained although he has not needed to wear his muzzle in recent times.
Jasper is untested with cats and will be rehomed to an adult family.
Jasper will benefit from a home in quiet surroundings, with an experienced person who will teach him to fit in with their routine and that he does not have to be anxious any longer because someone else is caring for him.
Jasper has a big heart full of love that he can’t wait to share with you!
Please note: our dogs are not available for interstate adoption. We also do not adopt to people under the age of 25 years.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
If you are still interested, please download an application form from our website:

The application form must be emailed to us:

Please note that we do not take/make telephone calls prior to receiving an application.
Commonly asked questions and their answers are provided when you email us. Unfortunately we usually will not have time to reply to enquiries in more detail and will give priority to completed applications over enquiries. Priority will also be given to typed applications which are easier for us to read and to copy relevant parts.
We look forward to receiving your application.
