Sweet Arlo and the joy she’s spread

Sam and her partner Jai adopted their beautiful staffie girl Arlo after finding her profile on PetRescue four years ago, and they can’t remember life without her now! Sam's heart melted as she flicked through the photos of teeny little pup Arlo's profile on PetRescue and knew it was love.

Heart-melting Arlo (then named Anna)

Sam, who is a long-time dog lover, had previously had family dogs including staffies growing up. As she was planning to move out of her family home, she was ready to adopt her very own furry friend who could become a loyal companion. She was looking for a doggo who would be protective so she felt safe, but also loving and full of character to make sure there would never be a dull moment at home, and decided that a staffie would tick all these boxes!

Sam recalls the meet and greet with Arlo like it was only yesterday and says that as soon as she saw little Arlo running towards her, she knew she was the one! Sam says about the first meeting "She was this tiny pup trying to run over to us while also trying to show us her new "sit and shake" trick at the same time, who could say no to such a goof?"

On the trip home, Sam remembers asking the universe for Arlo to be hers. "The day we found out we had been chosen was the first time I've ever cried happy tears." 

Sweet girl Arlo is the funniest and most unique dog that Sam has ever met, and the more time they spent together, the more her true personality came out! Sam describes Arlo as ‘a smart and intuitive girl, but also a mega doofus who likes to keep her humans on their toes and surprise them with what she’s going to do next!.’ Sam and Jai love always having Arlo greet them when they come home, with her signature bum wiggle and staffie talk!

Sam was only eighteen when she adopted Arlo. Sam feels Arlo has taught her a lot about prioritising others before herself, and making sure Arlo’s (and her other pet’s) needs are met before she tends to her own. Sam describes Arlo as being like her and her Jai's first child, who has helped them learn how to care for another being and raise them to be the best version of themselves, giving them a safe environment and teaching them how to learn right from wrong. Arlo hasn’t just provided Sam and Jai with companionship, she’s helped to give them a sense of responsibility and patience. Sam says that Arlo is so much more than just a pet, ‘she’s been my best friend, in hard times and good times she has always been there to cry or dance with.’ The experience of adopting Arlo has also reinforced to Sam the importance of adoption, and that she’ll always choose to adopt a rescue pet in the future to help as many pets in need as possible.

Sam says to anyone thinking about adopting a staffie to ‘be ready for a little power-ball of love and charm, who will change your life for the better!’.

She says that no two days are the same with a staffie as they’re so charismatic, truly feeling like a best friend because of their love and dedication towards their owners, always wanting to be wherever their people are.
