Sadie lives every dog’s dream life! 💚
Remember this adorable face from the 12 Pets of Christmas last year?
Smiley young gal Sadie had been at Shoalhaven Animal Shelter for five long months. Sadie, an energetic and exuberant doggo looking for a large space to run around and a loving human who could continue her training, hadn’t received any enquiries at all!
Little did Sadie know she was about to receive the best Christmas gift a homeless doggo could ask for!
Kate’s rescue pet haven
Enter Kate. An animal-loving nurse who made her dream to live on a large property with lots of rescue pets a reality. Kate’s 40-acre property in Budgong was already home to three rescue doggos and several rescue horses, geese and ducks. Kate had previously adopted another of her dogs, Diesel from the shelter and visited Shoalhaven again to adopt a rooster!
But there was a big, furry surprise waiting around the corner for her.
She noticed Sadie, a beautiful, energetic one-and-a-half-year-old doggo, and went home and looked her up online. Eight weeks passed, and Sadie was still on Kate’s mind. She searched for her again online and was surprised to see Sadie was still looking for a home... It was meant to be! So she decided to go into the shelter again and make Sadie's Christmas wish come true.
Sadie meets her new fam.
Kate brought one of her dogs to their first meet and greet with Sadie. They took it slowly so it wasn’t too overwhelming for her. But Sadie surprised everyone with her adorable response to Kate!
“Sadie jumped on top of me and threw her arms around me when she saw me, and I said - I’m taking her home.”
Kate brought each of her dogs to the pound to meet Sadie. They were completely comfortable and unbothered by her, but Sadie was initially quite shy and unsure of them.
Kate quickly decided she wasn’t leaving without Sadie. So, this time, Sadie hopped into her car, and Kate took her for a play in the dam as soon as they arrived home.
“As soon as she saw the dam, in she went! She was straightaway playing with the other dogs, running up and down the dam wall!”
Sadie’s new home & new furry besties.
After a couple of months, Sadie has settled in well and is the happiest gal with a serious love for life!
“I give her a lot of love and attention. I taught her how to sit, and I taught her how to trust. She’s happy with all my doggies; they love to hoon up the paddock into the dam together. It all comes down to trust, love and attention.
She comes when she’s called now, sleeps all night and is totally off leash; she’s never run away. She sometimes goes to the paddock and plays and sits with my rescue horses - she tried to play with them at first, but they weren’t interested! She’s got happiness and shininess, and I thank God I adopted her when I did. She’s a near-perfect little dog, and she’s not even two yet”.
The life-changing impact of furry family members.
Kate’s bond with her pets is everything to her, and she’s a dedicated pet lover.
“My pets are my whole life - dogs, horses, ducks, geese... There’s a close relationship with them. I don’t let them get away with bad behaviour but I try to work with that behaviour and work out why they’re showing unacceptable behaviour and how we can work on it together.
I have a close relationship with the animals, I understand them, and they respect me. They like routine, but they also like independence, animals are free on my property, and they come in to join me every night.”
