Meet the adorable pets who soared Australian skies
Thanks to our awesome partners-in-flight, love was ~literally~ in the air this year!
As part of our partnership with Jetpets, we’re doing our best to ensure that hard-to-rehome rescue pets don’t ever miss out on the opportunity to find love and timely care, even if that means flying them across the country! This year we joined paws with Jetpets to facilitate free flights for 33 of the sweetest rescue pets, bringing them one step closer to their new homes.
And while all of these happy endings sent our feels straight into a “tailspin”, we’re giving you a glimpse of some of the cutest passengers who boarded flights to a safer future this year:
Nitro
Rescue group - Canine Welfare Australia
✈️ Sydney > Perth
Nitro was rescued from incredibly dire circumstances by the pawesome team at Canine Welfare Australia. An adventurous water baby, Nitro can melt hearts with his patchy snoot. This bubbly boy was flown from Sydney to Perth where he was welcomed with open arms and so much love. We are so excited to keep up with Nitro’s adventures with his new family!

Rescue group - Arctic Breed Rescue & Husky Rescue WA
✈️ Adelaide > Perth
After a tragic loss that left this pair all alone and stranded overnight, the rescue community across multiple states banded together for a heroic rescue! Thanks to the amazing efforts of Arctic Breed Rescue in NSW, this pair was safely flown over to Husky Rescue in WA from Adelaide. Given their tragic situation, our amazing partner Jetpets not only fast-tracked their application but also waived their crate hire fees and safely flew this pair out in just four days!
Marilyn
Rescue group - Hear No Evil Deaf Dog Rescue
✈️ Townsville > Melbourne
This happy-go-lucky girl was born deaf and blind because of her double merle gene, but never let her shortcomings stand in the way of being the goodest girl ever. Marilyn was resilient and hopeful that one day she’d be the perfect fit for a perfect home. And after being listed on PetRescue for over two years, she was lucky to have found humans who understood this and were eager to be her soulmates! We were extremely thrilled to collaborate with Jetpets and her amazing rescue, Hear No Evil Deaf Dog Rescue, and help this sweet girl pack her bags for her flight straight to the hearts of her new adopters in Melbourne!
Dexter
Rescue Group - Animal Trust Society
✈️ Sydney > Brisbane
When 12-year-old Dex finally found a wonderful home in Brisbane, we couldn’t be happier. As luck (or fate) would have it, after living most of his life in a clinic, it was an ex-veterinarian who fell in love with Dexter. We were delighted to help out our friends at the Animal Trust Society and fly out this ol’ guy to his new home absolutely free of cost, helping him finally be the family cat he wanted to be!
Patch
Rescue Group - Red Collar Rescue Inc
✈️ Brisbane > Perth
A gentle soul and a bonafide snuggle bunny, sweet little Patch finally found a great home on the other side of the country! Thanks to the combined efforts of Red Collar Rescue Inc and Jetpets, we helped an excited Patch fly to her new humans in sunny Perth, and are looking forward to hearing all about her shenanigans!
“We feel very privileged to be able to provide a service that allows rescue pets in need to fly to their compatible, loving homes that are based interstate. We look forward to continuing to support the amazing work done by PetRescue by providing an allocation of free flight services through our partnership with Virgin Australia”, said Jetpets Managing Director Sandy Matheson.
