Littermates Koko and Lola find a new home
Koko and Lola got the best mews of their lives when their human, Jennifer, found them via PetRescue’s adoption platform and adopted them from Pound Rescue NSW. This cute pair stole Jennifer and her fiance’s heart and made a place for themselves in their home.
Jennifer, who documents their adventures and cute antics on their Instagram page was more than thrilled to have opened her home to two cats. We got Jennifer to describe her life with Koko and Lola, and how this adorable duo changed her life.
Why we adopted cats...
We actually love cats and dogs equally, but at the end of the day, our apartment lifestyle and full-time work arrangements meant that having cats was a better suit for both ourselves and the cats. We also chose to adopt two cats at once, so that they would be able to better keep each other company when we are not at home. I also grew up around many animals, and with an animal-loving family. My uncle cares for a village-full of foster cats in my hometown of Hong Kong, and so I have had plenty of exposure to cats growing up, and experience in caring for them, at all stages of life.
What we learned about cats...
We think that a lot of people perceive cats as having a cold and arrogant demeanour. But this is totally untrue. Cats can be expressive and loving too, but they just differ from dogs in the way they show their affection.
Our cats are very clingy and need plenty of pats, proximity, and attention. They love being nearby no matter which room we choose to be in, and will follow us around as soon as we get up from our seats. In that way, they rarely fully leave our sides. They typically loiter around our computers when we’re working from home, and play whenever we’re in the living room, and they’re around their scratchers and toys.
Even when they wish to sleep, they tend to choose sleeping spots close to us, so that they may keep an eye on us, as well as have our watchful eyes on them. Koko occasionally likes sleeping on our lap, but Lola tends to prefer the cold, hard surfaces of the table or floor instead.

How we keep our cats busy…
We have bought them numerous toys in the form of small soft toys, scratchboards, and ball-bearing toys, but the one overarching rule that we have learnt over time is that they tend to gravitate towards the toys we least expect. Generally, though, they enjoy jumping and chasing after the fish toy that we have hung on an elastic line at the end of a stick. This toy, among all the others, seems to keep both of their attention the longest.
Individually, Koko’s favourite toy is a blue fabric mouse, which he pushes and chases around the house, and carries proudly in his mouth from room to room. Lola likes our simple cardboard scratchboards, as she can easily go to sleep once she’s done scratching (she likes sleeping on top of them).
How Koko and Lola have changed our lives...
They have definitely brought more love, warmth and laughter to our family!
To be frank, we’re just taking things one day, week, or month at a time. We’re trying to be the best parents that we can be, and provide these two cats with the best care that we can afford them; by trying to keep them fed well, entertained, clean, and safe. 💚
