Impact Report 2019-2020
Thanks to your support over the last financial year, 71,933 pets were adopted with PetRescue’s help!
The total number of pets adopted is now a WHOPPING 651,840 in just 16 years - that’s a lot of happiness! THANK YOU!
Thousands of #HappyTails were made, including...
Olympic swimmer Giaan Rooney used the ‘alert’ function on PetRescue to find her furry soulmate Roy at Waggy Tails Rescue in QLD!
Despite his impaired vision, with thousands searching for love on PetRescue, Franklin from Greyt Greys Rescue found happiness in just ONE month!
It’s been a great year for rescue pets listed on PetRescue who received 300,064 enquiries from potential adopters. The flood of enquiries means good news for pets as there's an even better chance of finding the most suitable home for everyone.
Australians prove that pet adoption is the best option!
As the most visited animal welfare platform in Australia, implementing ongoing tech upgrades, new search features and improved user experience is essential to make the adoption experience easier and better than buying from a pet shop. Your support means we can keep up with the needs of millions of users across Australia who rely on PetRescue to help them find their new pet.
Your faith in our work helped deliver free services to rescue organisations and the pets in their care, including:
In partnership with Mars Petcare and PETstock our Food Donation Program resulted in $731,167 worth of essential food to reach pets in care at rescue groups and community organisations across Australia
For 13 years, our free flights program, in partnership with Jetpets, has helped give rescue pets a better chance at finding their humans across state borders. Saving thousands of dollars the program also creates more options for pets who find it harder to get adopted.
Such as long-termer Patches from Red Collar Rescue Inc. She had the perfect home - the only hitch - the home was in Perth and Patch was in Brisbane. Kick in the Free Flight Program and Patches adoption became possible and she was soon on her way to a new family on the other side of Australia.
When it comes to pets things aren’t always straightforward. This year our small helpdesk team handled over 7,000 online enquiries from adopters, pet owners, rescue groups and shelters.
Often enquiries are for tech or rehoming assistance but this year with bushfires and the pandemic, enquiries were incredibly diverse, including supporting three bushfire-affected cats being relocated to Melbourne. Thanks to your support we can be there to help create great outcomes for pets.
How your support helped pets during a pandemic...
When Australia plunged into lockdown mode in early March, a silver lining from the pandemic was the thousands of potential adopters flocking to PetRescue eager to adopt a pet.
Smashing the PetRescue website with more than double the normal traffic, we needed to act fast to upgrade our system to handle the spike and implement a new volunteer database to support rescue groups.
With activities and events closing down and many rescue groups unable to fundraise, a swift collaboration with Animals Australia saw $100,000 of emergency relief funding urgently distributed to rescue groups in May.
Funded by Animals Australia and managed by PetRescue, this provided immediate and direct financial relief for many PetRescue members caring for pets with reduced funds.
See how your support at this crucial time helped pets!
We couldn’t have done this without you!
This last financial year has had challenges for us all but there has also been an amazing outcome for rescue pets. More than ever what was highlighted is just how important it is to have a robust and reliable platform underpinning pet adoption in Australia.
Thanks to your support together we are there for pets and many more than we could imagine have found their homes. Because of your generosity, we can provide the latest technology, adoption platform and programs for free, connecting rescue groups and pet lovers across Australia. Thank you for making this happen - creating happiness and saving lives!
We won’t stop until every pet is safe, respected and loved. Now more than ever we have a chance to seize this once in a lifetime opportunity the pandemic has brought to really change the future for pets.
