Do dreams come true?

Seven times in his short two years, Pudge found himself looking for a new home. Each time hoping that this would be it, that he’d found his pack. A wonderfully loyal dog, Pudge enjoys a deep and meaningful relationship with people and dogs alike. And he has a very cute face, too.

Pudge found his way to PetRescue's Home2Home program when his most recent human, Jack, realised that his lifestyle wasn’t what Pudge needed. Full-time work mixed with Pudge’s separation anxiety meant that Pudge could not thrive in his new home. Jack could see this and wanted to do whatever he could to ensure that Pudge’s next move was to a more stable environment. 

It wasn’t all smooth sailing. Dogs have quirks, just like humans, and a few doors didn’t survive Pudge. And a few plants, too. But Jack was determined. With the assistance and advice from Home2Home’s resident dog behaviourist, Jack was able to implement some strategies and training to significantly reduce Pudge’s separation anxiety and to prepare him as best as he could for success with a new family.

Months passed, with a couple of enquiries and meet-and-greets, but they weren’t Pudge’s people. The reality is, this can be disheartening. And it was. Although Pudge was greatly improving in behaviour, his true need for a home with others couldn’t be filled where he was. But patience is key. We believe there’s a home out there for every pet, no matter their quirks, size or age.  

Four and half months after being listed for adoption, Ange was scrolling through pet listings on PetRescue.com.au, where she locked eyes with Pudge’s profile photo and fell instantly in love with him. As Ange read through Pudge’s profile, she realised that she could give Pudge all he ever dreamed of and more: a home with four people, two furry friends, constant companionship, and endless love! 

It's a bit sad, actually, but I'm mostly happy for Pudgy that he's found his perfect forever home. Everything went smoothly, and they have sent me messages and photos/videos of how happy he is, which is great! It makes it much easier to see footage of how happy he is. He loves having so many other people and dogs around all the time. Feels good that he will get to play every day instead of crying while I'm at work; it's definitely for the best. - Jack

Time, patience and Jack’s never-give-up attitude made it happen. When there’s a will, there’s a way, and Pudge’s story proves that hurdles can be conquered when we support a pet and the person caring for them.

And cared for is exactly what Pudge is!

Pudge has settled in really well as a part of our family. He is a very affectionate boy. He loves playing with his new mates Luna and Patch (our other fur babies), enjoys his walk twice a day and has had an adventure or two exploring the bush with us. He still has some mild separation anxiety if left outside. However, each day, his stress appears to be less and less, and we are confident that in time it may cease. We are so happy to have found and have him as part of our family. - Ange
