About Howie
My perfect family who would include me in all family events going to the beach, walks, holidays, shopping, sports & just chilling on the lounge.
"Howie is an older gentleman who hasn't had the easiest life, once he knows you and feels secure, he will be your best friend and want to be with you. Howie has come a long way since he arrived, he is able to be left alone for extended periods, loves going for walks and adventures and is never fazed by other animals when out and about. He happily shares his space with cats, pockets pets and birds/chickens. He's not interested in having other fur friends though, he just pretends they're not there at all. Howie still has separation anxiety and can become very possessive of his home and his people, which is why he would be suited to being the only other dog in the home as other dogs do bring out his abandonment fears. He is not reactive with dogs outside of his home but he is very protective of his space inside his territory. Although he would never hurt a child and is currently fostered in a home with children where he loves his cuddles, I believe that as he is an older dog, he would prefer a home that is quiet and predictable where he can just hang with his adult humans and tag along for whatever is in stall for the day. He is fussy with his food and due to years of having to fend for himself, he will try to steal food from bins/ counters and even your plate. For this reason Howies forever home must make appropriate accommodations and be firm and consistent in keeping all food scraps away and maintaining boundaries around meal times (unless a place is set for him at the table which he would absolutely love) Howie has several health conditions that are easily managed, salt water swims or treatment baths once a month will keep his dermatitis at bay and regular ear cleans will keep any infection clear. Howie is looking for a home that can dedicated 6-8weeks with him to start with so that he can learn to trust and feel secure, during this period the owners must be aware of his anxiety and tendency to run away. After he has a secure connection they will be rewarded with a loyal trusting dog who will shower them with affection and protection.
