We have this seasons' Muscovy ducklings and young adult drakes available for adoption (approx 50), the ducklings were born early this summer, all have magpied colouring, adult males are ony 18 months old, so they still have a lot of living to do.
Muscovies are docile, friendly ducks. Drakes are only aggressive if females are present and live very happily and peacefully without females. They have been hand fed when young and they are also used to the presence of maremma guardian dogs. They are very docile and are friendly towards humans.
Muscovy's diet must consist of protein, ie natural garden insects, mealworms, plus protein rich soaked lupins; soaked grain, soaked soybean meal and natural green grass, weeds. They eat mostly green vegetables, limited fruits and dislike citrus. They love to nibble on wholemeal bread too! Ducks are obviously waterfowl and require constant fresh water. Recycled IBC shuttles cut in half are ideal, but clam shells work too. Ducks can drown in water by becoming waterlogged, with plastic being slippery, so rough textured bricks and large rocks should be placed in large water vessels.
