~ A sweet little man looking for his Fairy Godmother ~
Check out this cute video of Max:
Max came into care after experiencing a life of living in a 2x2 cage with another dog in squalid conditions. Sadly after they were seized and taken to a shelter Max’s friend was in such poor condition that he was pts. Max then came to us.
Since being rescued Max’s heart and curiosity constantly soars.
Max has gone through a significant change in his life and he has done so well to adapt to living in a home. He still finds a couple of things a bit confusing like doors can open towards you and when this happens you can find yourself a little stuck behind it if you just go with the door. You have to let the door swing past you so you can go through it.
As you can imagine living in really poor conditions and not having regular access to the basics like clean water and food can have a long term impact on your body. We have discovered that Max has grade two kidney disease, poor muscle structure, incontinence when sleeping and a couple of other old age deteriorating conditions. The kidney disease does mean Max is requiring palliative care. The best we can do is try to slow it down through management.
Max’s current daily requirements to support these are:
Kidney disease - maintaining his required diet.
Poor muscle structure - exercises at home which he really enjoys.
Incontinence when sleeping - please note Max is toilet trained and does use a doggy door. This is just when he is sleeping. He has his beds that he loves and pee pads a placed in them. A daily load of washing of 2 blankets and one towel is required and Max will need a wipe down and a bath every couple of days.
Can you believe it? Despite how Max has been treated by people he just wants to love and be loved. He is doing well in foster care but he does not want to be a part of a pack. He wants to be an only dog where he can love and be loved all by himself. You really can’t blame him can you.
Max does suffer from separation anxiety and will follow his people everywhere. He is quite possibly worried that the love and kindness will disappear. Given the horrible hand this little man has been dealt for all his life, we are determined to make his time as happy as possible.
Max is fourteen but he has the spirit and energy of a ten year old. He loves life and all it has to offer. Some of his interests and loves are - blankets the softer the better, his beds, going for walks (he is quite the explorer and loves to take in all the smells the world has. He currently goes on two a day). Belly rubs - he wiggles all around while you rub his belly, food and his humans.
Could you be Max's special person? He has been waiting his whole life for you!
Please note: our dogs are not available for interstate adoption. We also do not adopt to people under the age of 25 years.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.
Medical notes
Weight: 5.4kgs
Health: Max has kidney disease. He has had a recent dry eye diagnosis.
Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

Please note that we do not take/make telephone calls prior to receiving an application.
Commonly asked questions and their answers are provided when you email us. Unfortunately we usually will not have time to reply to enquiries in more detail and will give priority to completed applications over enquiries. Priority will also be given to typed applications which are easier for us to read and to copy relevant parts.
We look forward to receiving your application.
