About Luigi- Dingo
Looking for a cuddly companion with abounding energy, intelligence and a loyal nature? Look no further than this pawsome pup, our special orphan and shelter favourite Luigi. Luigi came to us a 4-week-old orphan dingo pup with his brothers and was hand raised at our shelter.
Luigi is great with most people, he can be a little shy at first with strangers, but warms up quickly and is a total sweet-heart once he gets to know you. He is more confident with women and kids than men, but is easy to win over with treats!
He is great with older kids, he loves squeaky toys, back-rubs, and cuddles on the couch. A home with kids over 5 (or no kids) would be best as he will grow into a boisterous young dingo and might be too energetic for very young children.
Luigi would suit an energetic person or family and will grow up to be a great jogging companion or could even learn to run besides a bike!
Luigi would love a home with another dog or dingo as a playmate, to help build his confidence and keep him company. Luigi will be around 18-20kg fully grown and would love a home with a doggy or dingo friend of a similar size or bigger. No small dogs, cats or pocket pets please!
Luigi is extremely smart and food motivated, he is currently learning toilet training and using puppy pads. He is also learning to walk on lead and has some basic crate training, he is good in the car but will need more practice with her new family.
Luigi’s new home would ideally continue his training and book him in for puppy school! Dingoes are smart energetic animals and training and good socialization are an absolute must.
Luigi has a short desert-type coat, which is low maintenance and will only require brushing when he sheds her winter coat. Dingoes are extremely clean animals and will often groom themselves.
Luigi is not suitable to live in an apartment and will need a secure backyard, ideally with another dog or dingo for company.
Fencing requirements:
Luigi is a high content dingo.
A high content dingo typically has two dingo parents or a large amount of dingo genetics. High content dingoes are often known as “pure dingoes”. High-content dingoes are generally intelligent, independent animals and we recommend anyone considering adoption take the time to research these amazing animals prior to adoption, email us at info@sfdr.org for an adoption information pack.
High content dingoes have much stricter fencing requirements due to their climbing ability. They also cannot typically be let off the leash as they do not learn good recall (come back when called). You will need ONE OR MORE of the follow BEFORE an adoption trial for a high content dingo can begin.
- A 2.2m colour-bond or paling fence with nothing leaning against or near the fence line - A 1.8m fence (of any sturdy material) with a 45 degree inward facing over-hang of 60cm to prevent climbing (see here: https://sanctuarysos.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/cat-proof-fence-barrier-to-keep-cats-safe-in-the-garden.jpg ). - A dog enclosure at least 1.8m high with either a full roof or 45 degree inward facing over-hang of 60cm to prevent climbing. Must be at least 25m square (for instance 5m x 5m or 8m x 3m) - Mesh, concrete or similar around the base of the fence may also be required
Some manufacturers of pre-made dog enclosures include: https://www.vebopet.com.au/dog/dog-run-fence https://www.spotonpetenclosures.com.au/shop/listings/pet-enclosures/
Another option is using construction fencing style panels from bunnings or welded mesh sheets and posts. Ask us for a dingo fencing guide, we are here to help!
Adoption details
Please note at this time pending legal advice we are unable to offer fox kit adoption to private owners.
Dingo Adoption:
1. Send an email inquiry with your name and contact details outlining your current living situation, pets and family members and anything else you think might be relevant, particularly what your house and yard are like. Remember our dingoes typically require an enclosure or modified fencing.
2. We will email you back adoption information and an application form to fill out and return to us.
3. If your application is approved- Come along to meet us and our dingoes at our Goulburn shelter or their foster carers' home and let us find the right furry family member for you. We can also come to you. We are happy to meet new prospective owners anywhere in NSW or the ACT.
4. Before you can pick up your new dingo you will also need to under a house/yard check and pay your adoption fee. No animals are rehomed unless their adoption fee is paid in full and a yard check has been completed.
