About Teddy Belvedere
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/about-vicdrg/adoption-and-foster-application-forms.html/
Teddy Belvedere has been with us since late last year. We weren’t actively looking to find him a home initially as he came to us with his friend Lucy whom had degenerative myelopathy and we left them together. Lucy sadly is no longer with us and Teddy needs his own home.
Teddy was a timid when he arrived and it took a little while for him to gain confidence with us. If we had visitors he would often take himself off to the adjoining room where he could be away from the melee. When his anxiety set in because of a thunder storm or other reason, he would often run in circles in the backyard. And walking on the lead appeared to be new to him, and he wasn’t very good at it.
Lucy used to bark at any movement in our court and this would encourage Teddy to do the same. Lucy would nip at Teddy if it got a little frenzied.
We were concerned that with Lucy gone, Teddy would be even more anxious, but it’s been the opposite.
Since Lucy left us, Teddy has come out of his shell, and his anxiety levels are much reduced. He now only barks to say hello if he recognises a visiting car or friend; he’s not doing circles; and now prefers to be in the same room as our visitors – and is very polite about it too. Walks are much better, although he’s still reactive when he sees another dog. But with treats he can be distracted and he’s learning to be less reactive.
We wonder if Lucy received more attention during their 12 years together because she was pretty and confident, and now he’s finally free to be himself. Teddy has let us know recently that he would much prefer to be an only dog. He would like you to be around quite a bit but when you are out he is happy just to doze till you come back to him.
Teddy is a medium sized dog. He is playful, gentle, well-mannered and is ready to live his best life. Teddy is very active and loves chasing the ball or rope - you would think he was half the age he is. He loves lying on his back in the sun; a cuddle and couch-time, but he’s not a needy dog and is happy in his own company too.
He’s looking for an active family that will continue to carry on with his training, take him for his walks and maybe even a job / run.
Teddy sleeps through the night, is toilet trained, great in the car, and isn’t a fussy eater. He does tend to ‘inhale’ his food, so we ‘scatter’ it to make it last longer. He is food oriented, which is helpful for training.
Always happy to see you, Teddy is a great companion waiting for the right person or family to give him a second chance.
Thank you to Christopher of Christopher Fotobooks for the fantastic photos of Teddy.
Please note: our dogs are not available for interstate adoption. We also do not adopt to people under the age of 25 years.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

Please note that we do not take/make telephone calls prior to receiving an application.
Commonly asked questions and their answers are provided when you email us. Unfortunately we usually will not have time to reply to enquiries in more detail and will give priority to completed applications over enquiries. Priority will also be given to typed applications which are easier for us to read and to copy relevant parts.
We look forward to receiving your application.
