About Narla
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE, HOWEVER WE CAN ENDEAVOUR TO ARRANGE TRANSPORT BY ROAD TO THE PERTH AREA.
NAME: Narla
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound.
BREED: Staffordshire Bull Terrier x Kelpie
BREED TRAITS:
Staffordshire Bull Terriers: Even though they look tough they are mostly affectionate and loving dogs with family - known as Nanny dogs they are great with children if brought up with them correctly. They love to be with their people and do not cope with being alone, therefore they are not outside dogs. They are energetic and need a good work out every day. Early training is essential especially consistent and positive socialisation with other dogs. Bold, intelligent, reliable, and loyal, this breed is not for novice owners.
Kelpies are high energy and highly intelligent being a working breed, so may need to be found a 'job' to make them feel fulfilled. They get bored easily if their brains are not worked, so training is a must. They are very social with adults, children and other dogs. They are very loyal but if the instinct is strong they may try to herd anything that moves.

ASSETS: Very affectionate, devoted, friendly, sensitive and sweet, pretty much sums this gorgeous girl up, she’s an absolute darling who will continue to grow with training and guidance from her new owner but has come on in leaps and bounds in foster. She has an enormous amount of potential.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Toys and people! She loves to play with her toys and gets very protective of them. She also loves naps, riding in the car, and lots of time with her human.
ENDEARING FEATURES: She’s incredibly sweet and loving and will follow you around. She laps up all the attention she can get and loves being close to you.
OTHER ANIMALS: She gets on well with other friendly dogs once she’s had a slow, supervised introduction and is comfortable with them but doesn’t really take to smaller dogs. She has had a spell with farm dogs (but not good around livestock) and is currently being fostered with a large breed male dog who she is learning to accept. She has shown a bit too much interest in cats and has chased so we won’t home her with any small animals.
GENERAL INFO: Narla's lead work and command training is improving but ongoing training would be good for her. She is housetrained. She barks at strange noises and when someone is at the door and is now much more relaxed around unknown animals due to gradual exposure. Her focus is her human and if not left alone for too long would love to be a best buddy - she would prefer her owner to be around more often than not. Narla could possibly live with another calm dog that will give her space but would probably prefer to be the only dog and get all the attnetion.
ESSENTIALS for Narla:
** An active, loving home where someone is there more often than not or can take her with them when out.
** She may wish to live with another calm, friendly dog but would be more than happy to be the only dog and get all the attention.
** An owner who will continue to train her and build on the great progress she has made in care - classes where she can continue to relax around other dogs and learn and grow her confidence.
** Being an active girl, she needs good daily exercise and mental activity so an active home that is willing to involve her in family activities.
** Narla needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things for her to sniff and explore or be closely supervised on a property, with no access to livestock.
** Narla loves to be with her people so needs to be allowed inside the home and to sleep inside at night.
Narla could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 12 years who are old enough to recognize her signals and give her space if she needs it.
