About Champ & Xanthe
Champ and Xanthe have bonded whilst being with us in their foster home. They are sweet dogs who help each other. Xanthe will not do anything without Champ being there. She is like a shadow to him. They are both very shy but sweet dogs who need an experienced owner. They cope with full time workers and rarely bark and are looking for a quiet lifestyle.
Xanthe is one of the most nervous shut down dogs I have seen when she came from the pound. When she first came she would not eat when a human was present but now she is accepting treats from the hand. She is very intelligent and obedient and will walk on loose lead with you, but if there is a sudden noise or movement she is ready to bolt. She is on high alert all the time. She makes eye contact and accepts soft touches as well as ear cleaning though never seeks human affection. She has a short coat and weighs 19.8kg.
Champ is an affectionate dog who just loves hanging around with you, but he needs time to trust you. He is more comfortable with females but accepts alot of men. He needs people close to him as he can get very anxious alone but with Xanthe around he is fine. He is not high energy and indeed lies around in the sun most of the day. Champ came from the pound with heartworm and he has recovered from the treatment. When he came from the pound he was totally shut down and refused to walk. He would not eat if humans were around but he eats now with gusto! Champ has high prey drive and barks at possums. He has a little arthritis in his spine. He has a smooth coat and weighs 20kg.
Champ and Xanthe need a family willing to visit them a few times to build a relationship.
Suit Full Time Worker: Not overly needy and can entertain itself. DR recommends play time, dog toys etc.
Garden: Needs a home that has more space as well as a garden for exercise and regular walks outside.
NEEDS RESCUE EXPERIENCE:
These dogs need someone with previous rescue experience in rehabilitation, with an in depth understanding of and experience in building relationships with these kinds of dogs.
Medical notes
He comes desexed, C5 vaccinated, heartworm free and microchipped. Also included for the love and health of our dogs is a free Health and Wellness Voucher with our DR Vet.
Adoption details
DoggieRescue is a charitable organisation and as such we rely very much on volunteers to manage our adoptions. We answer initial adoption enquiries by email or phone and then arrange an appointment for you to meet some of our rescue dogs.
At DoggieRescue we believe our dogs deserve to find that special someone who will love them and look after them forever. We know that there are homes out there that are willing to accommodate one more little member of the family and dedicate time to their well being.
