Churros

Ola! I’m Churros and I’m a very special boy looking for a very special home. My eyesight isn’t the best you see – the dogtor says I have something called ‘bilateral retinal degeneration’… I don’t know what all those words mean, I just know that I’m nearly blind and I was born like this so it’s all I’ve known, really.

Now, on to the positives – my eyesight certainly doesn’t bother me, so it shouldn’t bother you (but I still need an extra special home)! It just means that I’m an extra good listener and detective with my sleuthy snoot! Speaking of my sleuthy snoot, I love enrichment activities where I get to sniff out treats hidden in toys and boxes… I’d love it if my new home would take the time to engage my keen nose to figure out these puzzles.

Just because I’m blind doesn’t mean I’m slow going – because I’m very young I’m still pretty active… I love to play and use my smarts. I’d really love a family that can keep up with me!

So I can live my best life, It’s very important that I find a smaller home without stairs so I can learn to find my way around quickly without too many obstacles but it would be ideal if it also had a yard for me. My new family should be experienced dog owners, even better if you’ve had a greyhound before! And I’d do best without any distractions like living in a busy area, other pets or kids.

I don't mind other dogs, but my eye condition means I often have my eyes wide open to let in as much light as I can. Other dogs can misinterpret this sometimes (I don't mean it that way, of course!) so it's best I live as a solo hound.

Oh, and I think I’ve left out the best part – I forgot to tell you that I’m also the sweetest, happiest, funniest boy you’ll ever meet!!

A note from Churros' foster family

Churros would do best in a single storey home with only a few stairs, preferably in a quieter area. He needs access to the home at all times and cannot be left alone in the backyard. He will need an enclosed safe  backyard free from hazards.

Churros' ideal family will have experience with dogs, preferably with greyhounds, and have someone who works from home or has reduced working hours. He can sometimes growl when scared and would prefer a home with no kids.

Churros still freezes while walking so his family will need to have some patience and accept that this will take him time.

Churros will not jump out of a larger car, so they need a smaller car, a ramp or have the strength to lift him.

Churros needs a tactile & vocal home. Loads of stimulus with enrichment exercises. He LOVES to have visitors in the home- he lights up!

Finally he needs a home that is looking for a dog to become their world. He’s a absolute joy however they will need to adapt their home and lifestyle to him, not the other way around.
