About Brian Dubois
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/about-vicdrg/adoption-and-foster-application-forms.html/
Dear Brian has had some disruptions to his world and is looking for a kind person or pack with whom to spend his golden years. A cat-friendly cuddle bug, Brian loves nothing more than the company of his people, a lap or two to snuggle in, and a chance to stretch his paws and sniff the neighbourhood from time to time. Brian has some basic training and has lived amicably with cats and other small dogs in various share housing arrangements with his past people. He is pretty good on lead and would love learn some simple engagement activities to completely master his walking style while forming bonds with his new people. Brian sleeps well through the night, either on a human bed or in his own bed nearby. He is a good traveler, fine in the car.
Brian is house trained but has a history of marking inside, which has become more frequent because of the family changes he is experiencing. He will need regular indoor-outdoor access and a family or person willing to work with him on this behaviour who understand it may take a while as he settles into a new family. Brian is happy being handled most of the time but can react if he is picked up while distressed and is sensitive to touch around his bottom. He is used to being left alone while his people are at work, but with his lap dog inclinations, would prefer company more often than not. Brian is occasionally outraged by the beeps and tweeps of modern life (not the sounds of other dogs) and tends to bark at some, but not all, household appliances. This should ease with some basic desensitisation training.
Brian is looking for a patient dog-experienced home who will embrace him in all his Brianhood. He would do well in a variety of households as he enjoys the company of people and is happy cohabiting with other animals. Given his age and sensitivity to some handling, Brian would prefer an adult household or one with older children who can respect his needs. Brian would prefer a life where someone is home much of the time, and may do better in a house than a unit due to his reactivity to some noises. While Brian could definitely live happily with a cat or another small dog, subject to careful introductions, he is protective of his food and should be fed separately if living with other pets. Brian is new into our care and we will update his profile as we get to know him better.
Please note: our dogs are not available for interstate adoption. We also do not adopt to people under the age of 25 years.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
