About Charlie
Meet Charlie – Your Retired Racing Greyhound Companion!
Are you ready to welcome a retired racing superstar into your home? Look no further than Charlie, the charismatic greyhound who has gracefully transitioned from the racetrack to foster care. Charlie has transformed into a happy and healthy gentleman in just a few short weeks, eagerly awaiting his forever home!
Health Update: Charlie recently underwent the critical step of being desexed. As an ex-racing dog transitioning to the comforts of home life, Charlie is receiving regular vaccinations and vet checks during these crucial first four weeks. These efforts ensure his seamless journey from the racetrack to a domestic backyard. Charlie's resilience shines through, and he's well on his way to enjoying a happy, healthy, and loving life.
Retired Racer Traits: "Gentle" and "Loyal" are two words that perfectly describe Charlie. This retired athlete appreciates life's slower pace and has adapted seamlessly to home comforts. Whether enjoying a soft bed or relishing a paw massage while lazing about on the lounge watching TV, Charlie embodies the essence of a loving companion.
Social Butterfly: Charlie is a social butterfly! Excellent with strangers, his calm demeanour doesn't waver even in the face of thunder and lightning. He effortlessly mingles with his foster siblings (1 x 7 y/o staffy and 1 x 7 y/o kelpie), proving to be an excellent companion to canine friends.
Home Habits: Charlie is thoroughly house-trained considerate enough not to relieve himself in the bedroom overnight. He provides a timely warning when he needs to go outside.
Foodie Alert: Charlie is a food enthusiast! Eagerly eating from your hand, his excitement for meals is evident. He doesn't rush through his food and displays no jealousy during feeding. Highly food-focused, Charlie makes training an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Feeding Commitment: Having been fostered for a few weeks and being an ex-racing greyhound, Charlie is gaining weight. He receives nourishing meals and shows no pickiness with food, making it easy to put some meat on his bones and bring his coat to a vibrant and shiny state.
Exercise Partner: Charlie is a fantastic walking companion, loving a brisk 30-minute walk. His calm demeanour on the lead makes him an excellent addition to any walking routine, followed by contentedly lounging by your side afterwards.
Noisy Naysayer: While not a big talker, Charlie is inquisitive about his surroundings. Learning from his foster siblings the right and wrong of chasing scrub fowl, he excitedly barks once or twice to let you know that he's enjoying himself.
Family Dynamics: Given Charlie's background as a retired racing greyhound, he may surprise you with his genuinely gentle nature. He is highly adaptable to a family setting. He loves being included in all situations, as long as it concludes with lying at your feet beside a cool fan. It is his go-to happy place.
Speed Demon: Charlie has quickly learned the stay command, with his most significant achievement being routine execution—knowing to remain in the yard when the gate is being opened. While mindful of Charlie's lightning-fast speed, ensuring a consistent gate routine is critical to keeping this spirited pup safe.
Training Adventures: Charlie, having recently retired, has quickly adapted to household routines. With continued positive reinforcement, each training milestone helps him adjust and learn new commands at his own pace.
